Books I've read till June 2018

These are the books I've read this winter and spring

1.- No one writes to the colonel - Gabriel García Marquez

Even though I am a fan of Gabriel García Marquez this one is not one of my favorite books... the language was exquisite but the story couldn't keep my attention for long.... However, his writing is so good it deserves 4/5

☆(4/5)

If you want to read some other book of this writer I do recommend to you A hundred years of solitude,  Love in the time
cholera or chronicle of a death foretold.

2.- The General in his labyrinth - Gabriel García Marquez

It is about the last part of the life of Simon Bolivar. When he was traveling with his men to the Caribbean coast to escape to Europe while he was actually dying.

3.- Moxie - Jennifer Mathieu

I don't really know why I chose to read this book. In overall, it was ok but the story wasn't what I was expecting (I knew what it was about but I was expecting something bigger, stronger, a book breathtaking, and for me, it wasn't).

It is about a teenager living in a village where "everything" is allowed to the male football players and how she was fed up of their behavior and she starts a "girl" movement against them. I think it was a good effort of showing to YA and teens, and maybe women in general, that if we are united we can fight against sexual harassment but I'd rather prefer other way of telling it.

4.- Home Fire - Kamila Shamsie

Addictive. At the beginning I was thinking it will be like Moxie. Too much expectation for not such a good story. But, honestly, at the end I couldn't wait for arriving home to read while I was cooking the dinner and find out what was going on. I'm not about to tell you anymore about it. Just read it.

5.- Niebla - Miguel de Unamuno

Weird. The first book I read in Spanish for years...and it was disappointing. This book was in my reading list for so many years that maybe I idealized it, and finally I was let down.

I cannot say it's a bad book. It is about a guy who fall in love of a pianist and how he tries to make her fall in love and forget his boyfriend.  It is quite original how the protagonist interact with the author and how the author breaks the line between reality and fiction. Good to read.

6.- The sun and her flowers - Rupi Kaur

I didn't enjoy it as much as I did with the first one (Milk and Honey) but it is still a good book.

☆(4/5)

7.- Ikigai - Héctor García and Francesc Miralles

Good intention. Not my sort of book.
☆(1/5)
