Keeping up with my life
Days have been busier than I imagined. Anyway, I still have the weekends to enjoy London.
After almost one month living in London I can assure you this city is majestic, impressive. I still have a smile in my face while I walk around discovering new places. London si full of markets and I am hopelessly adicted to them.
Covent Garden:It has different marktes. The mapple market is noisy and crowded. You can find different things depending on the day of the week you go (check it online before going). In addition to the market there are permanent shops, some of them quite small but worth visiting. the tea shops over there are nice and they deserve a visit, as well as the toys shop. The shop is upstairs. Moreover, if you haven't got enough time to spend all your savings, you still have another opportunity in the Jubilee market. I don´t know if it was only the time I went or it's always like that, but it was stifling and full of weird stuff such as petrified insects, compasses and so on and so forth.
Portobello Market: This one also deservs a visit, not only for the things you can find over there, if not for the scenary. The houses around are beautiful and picturesques. At the market you can find Paella, vegetables, jwelery, flowers and leather jackets. Additionally, the shops around are nice and unique. There is a bookshop speciallized in cook books. You can find absolutely all kind of cook books. And, it cannot be other way, I bought one. I hope the recipies deserv the pain in the neck of carrying it on the whole day....
Liberty. This is not a market. But this mall is near Oxford St and it is really beautiful due to its Tudor arquitecture style. Honestly, inside is just a shop. An expensive one. Just remember to visit Canarby if you finally go over there.
One of my favourite thing of the markets is that there are a lot of street singers around. And honestly, they sing very well. Impressively well.
During the weekend I also had time to visit another museum. This time was the turn of the National Gallery. It is huge. Huge and full, more than full of pictures. I just have time to visit the impresionist rooms. It was awsome. Not only the picture are atonishing, if not, the building itself is a masterpiece. The museum has some benches to sit down and there are artists there drawing. If you are not a fan of art, at least go to see a Monet.
The next day the Thames was waiting for us. I like to go to Westminster and cross the bridge to glance of it from the other side and then walk along the river. If you want to do it, be aware that it takes time until you arrive to the tower bridge, but the walk is nice. Once you leave Westmnster at you back, you can see the London Eye, the National Theatre, the Shakespeare's Globe, the Tate Modern, the Southwark Cathedral, the Borough Market (it was closed when I arrived... I will go other day), the Shard and the Tower Bridge. It tooks me more than an hour until I reach the Tower of London, but it deserves the effort. Not so many people know that there is a dock quite near, with a quite good pub, The Dickens inn. The hamburguer and the beer are a good reward after the walk.
I have been seeing St Paul Cathedral the whole day and I wanted to visit it. The Cathedral is nice and different from what I have seen before. There was a organ concert and I was in the right place at the right time. :)
I had booked the afternoon tea in Fortunm and Mason. Of course, once you decided to arrange an afternoon tea in a place like that you do it in style. Even though, when I booked it I thought, this is going to be some kind of tea with pastries. It is nothing similar. I swear you I cannot eat sugar anymore. The only thing it has in common with my idea is the tea. You have champain, tea, a salty dish, sandwiches, scones, jam, pastries, and cakes. Yeah... a month of gym wasted.
